Referees

Being a Referee is a great opportunity to be a role model to our youth and earn some extra income.

There are 2 types of referees. To be eligible to become a mini referee who officiates mini games only, you must have turned 12 by March 31,2011.

The entry level referee must have turned 14 by March 31,2010. Although this entitles you to referee both mini and youth games, generally you will be assigned to one mini game per week and lining one youth game. Referees may only referee youth games where their calendar age is at least 2 years greater than the age division of the game in question, with the approval and assessment of the Club Head Referee.

Names will be taken, and once we have determined how many referees will be required this season, interviews will be held in March. Each applicant will be contacted by telephone. Once you have been approved to officiate for our Club, we will cover the cost of the course, and a referee jersey and equipment will be provided. It is the responsibility of all referees who have already acquired their entry level certification, to renew each season the cost of their certification.

Mentor Program

The Club Head Referee will at random or at the request of the referee, observe referee(s) in action, review the game with them, and then provide constructive commentary on the referees’ performance. Not only are the new, young referees being assisted, but any referee looking to improve their skills and possibly set their goal towards obtaining the next qualification level are being supported.

Dates of Play

Dates of Play are decided upon at the start of the season. Mini games (4-10 yrs old) will be scheduled between Monday to Thursday. Youth games (11-18 yrs old) will be scheduled between Monday to Friday. Micro's (who turn 4 before the end of the playing year) will play Saturday mornings from 10:00 am - 11:00 am.

Weather Note

Soccer is played in all types of weather with the exception of Lightning storms. All teams should show up at the regular time and wait for the REFEREE to call the game otherwise a default could occur. A game must be 2/3s completed before being considered official. Any games called before this point will be rescheduled.

Home coach must reschedule field and date with opposing team and Mini/Youth Convener. Use the Flash to Bang method to monitor lightning for EVACUATION of the playing field to a safer environment. With this method the seconds are counted from the time a flash of lightning is seen until a clap of thunder is heard. When this number is 30 seconds or less, evacuation of the field should get under way.

Lightning awareness should begin with the first flash of lightning seen or thunder clap heard. Large enclosed structures (substantially constructed building) tend to be much safer than smaller or open structures. If the game is inside a stadium , encourage all players and coaches to go to the dressing rooms. If however, such a building is not available, fully enclosed vehicles such as cars, trucks, bused, vans, fully enclosed farm vehicles, etc. with the windows rolled up provide good shelter from lightning. Never stand under trees, in an open field or under an umbrella. The game should not be restarted until 30 minutes after the last clasp of thunder was heard or the last flash of lightning was seen.
